I was born and raised in Evansville, IN. I attended Vogel Elementary School (K-8) and North High School (1979). Being in Band and Choir kept me out of trouble and very busy. Since it was nearly impossible to play an oboe in the marching band, I twirled a baton. Yes, I still have the talent, and can even use the baton to wake students up. HA HA. My choreography skills can be found in my many dances/cheers that are incorporated in my class. Music continues to be an important part of my life.
I married my high school sweetheart, Jeff, and this year we celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary. We have two wonderful children. Samantha, '07 North High graduate, '11 Butler University, and is a 2014 graduate of the DPT program at the University of Evansville. Carl, '13 North graduate, is a University of Evansville student. He enjoys its diversity and the international friends he has made. Jeff & I have hosted many events (World Cup); students appreciate their home away from home.
I earned my bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Evansville. I hold an Elementary (grades 1-6) license and Junior High/Middle School license in Science (grades 5-9). This is my 35th year of teaching. I was previously at Plaza Park where I taught 3rd, 6th, 7th, & 8th grades. This is my 18th year at Scott School.
I want my students to be actively involved in learning, to become thinkers. This means group work and hands-on activites are a major part of my classroom. Students must transfer skills from one subject to another in order to answer higher-level thinking questions. I'm setting my goals high. I know they will be successful!
